Welcome to the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD). Our mission is to support students with disabilities in their pursuit of equity and excellence in education. We greatly appreciate the service you have provided to our nation and are committed to assisting you to achieve your educational goals.  The OSD works with students who have varied disabilities including medical disabilities, physical disabilities, psychiatric disabilities (including PTSD), learning disabilities, visual impairments, traumatic brain injuries, and/or are hard-of-hearing/deaf.  Our goal is to look at each student individually and to assess how we can best support her/his success at FAU.

OSD provides a number of services to veterans with disabilities. In addition to providing academic accommodations and physical access to all areas of FAU campuses, we work one on one with the student, supplying referrals to other FAU support services as well as agencies within the community. We are aware that many veterans have been out of school for a number of years and are here to support your transition back into the academic arena.  OSD has a Learning Specialist on staff to facilitate a smooth transition and to assist in the development of compensatory skills and strategies. The Office for Students with Disabilities also houses a state of the art assistive technology lab. Hands on training in all types of assistive technology is provided to help students gain independence and prepare for entry into the workforce.

OSD also collaborates with the Career Development Center to present specialized workshops.  We have participated in the Workforce Recruitment Program, a federal program to facilitate internship placement for students with disabilities, for the past eight years. A number of students have found meaningful and relevant internships through their involvement.

Please feel free to contact Nicole Rokos, OSD Director, at 561-297-3880 for additional information.  We look forward to hearing from you!
